You have the ability to install Transwarp-warp gates (TWG's) on your home planet if you research the transwarp-network. If you travel from one planet to another and both planets are in the same alliance and have built a twg, then you travel at transwarp speed, that is 3 tiimes faster than the fleet would travel normally.
There is also the mobile TWG that can be moved through the galaxy
