You can go on vacation if you build a cloak generator that cloaks your whole planet. This prevents the player from being attacked, but as the cloak generator costs a large amount of manpower, also prevents any sort of decent attack.
As long as a player is on vacation, the name in the com lists of other players is marked with a small "v".
This vacation mode stretches indefinetly, however, if a player does not log in for a certain amount of days (one can log in during vacation mode) his/her account will be deleted.
