Registers all hyperjumps within the scanradius and records the target coordinates of the fleets. Cloaked fleets are not detected. A sophisticated technology with transwarp

Scanradius: 4
speed: transwarp 20

admin: you see a message in the middlie like "You have been spied"
which means, that the owner of a trace probe gets a message with the new target coords of your fleet.

it does not spy any messages - all messages in the game are treated private, so don`t worry
admin: thespectre:
What exactly does a trace probe do? All I'm getting in the probe section is:

the probe is installed and functioning.
scanning for hyperjumps...
all fleet activities will be reported.

how and when do we get the co-ordinates of the fleet destinations?

Dougster:
you get a message in your message box saying blah blah started a jump to so and so co ords

Lord Philemon:
Yep. It's shown as a message from the person you've spied. But that person also gets the message "you have been spied".

God:
So what are u saying?! he would know that i send a prob to him?!

zaphod:
not a probe! you will see the destination coords of the fleets, which are leaving you.

Venom:
So, it will say you've been spied, but does it say you is doing the spying?

Lord Philemon:
No, it will only say that someone spied the target of your fleet, not who.

robert:
Can the trace probe travel without using a transwarp system?

Nemesis:
if you mean the transwarp network, then yes, it has it's own transwarp system, and will always travel with the same transwarp speed

darklim:
The Trace Probe Warp is faster, so don't need to worry about the TransWarp Network

Rubens:
an example of the trace probe is this:
if u send a probe to the center, (BH) the players there if retire their fleets to their planets or possibily another planet or prewarpworld, u can see wich are thats coords and the time destination. a example

whity cignus of constelation start a hyperjump to the 478 514 46 and the time is 1 d 2 h, and in the account of cignus appear u have benn spied but e dont know if u are the owner of the probe, only can no that information with a oscilation probe, so if u send a deep a scrambler atrce or a oscilation u can have many information, and with a final exploration u can have a trace in the center and in ur planet to know if a player attack tu u which are him coords

admin:
a nice addition would be this:
/forum/viewtopic.php?p=43982#43982
admin: "I am for having a seperate probe. The reason is I hate to the "you have been spy on message" which I annoy the crap out of the spying player by changing my coordinate 20-40 times."

this has stopped now: a spymessage will only be one message with all the changes since the last message

i will add this to the trace probe:
"we could change the trace probe that way, that it additionally shows all target coords of fleets within the scanradius.

the spy message should stay though, so the victom knows about its fate "

admin: a trace probe scan looks like this now:

scanradius: 4 sectors

target reached: 483/510/17 (distance: 100 ly)

scanning for hyperjumps...
all updates on fleet activities will be reported

incoming hyperjumps:
hyperjumpgate detected: 483/510/17
fleet 1 from a of a (ETA 1 h 55 m)

fleet signatures:
base fleet from a of a 481/510/17
fleet 1 from a of a 481/510.02/17, target: 483/510/17
fleet 1 from b of b 481/510/17
Anon De Mouse: Is there anyway i stop it from sending reports into my message folder ... I find it usufull but i hate how i keep getting coords of allaince members...
admin: we will remove the message "you have been spied"
i think it's more fun, if you don't get caught red-handed
T2: Gosh Admin...that was a feature I liked. Reasons being

1. Trace probes have limited use as other alliance members are usually alerted to it's use after first contact.

2. One sometimes forgets a trace probe is in orbit around somewhere and gives up their home base co-ords just the same and then curses oneself for forgetting a trace probe was there.

3. If trace probes are undetectable except with osc probe, I would use one continously to gather all opponent co-ords. As it is now, I plan my trace probes with care and certainty of trying to get coords of intended opponent with first try.

Trace probe are a pain in the ^$$ when I don't own it and I want to keep my coords hidden.

Counter arguments :
Co-ords would be easier to procure from your opponent bases which may make for more warfare.
New players or players unsure of battle sequence can "mouth off" in the forum with less fear of reprisal if their base is hidden.

I can see advantage and disadvantage in both scenarios.
admin: main disadvantage is, that, if you know, there is a traceprobe around, you have to fly in hooks and corners all the time, which is a nerd-factor, that gives you a bad sleep.
so we thought, if you dont know, that you have been spied, you dont have to care about it.

but we are open for discussions
spacetrace: i would suggest to deny the "you have been spied" - message

you have only 3 fleets slots - they are filled with dsp's , recon probes, pyramid device aso

so having a trace probe is locking down some resources... i must admit, i have never a slot open for it.

i just have the feeling it would be more fun if it would be sneaky

Hahaha...don't I know that.

You are probably right... I guess after reflection... I'll just say the
"you have been spied" has played a significant impact on my game play in both positive and negative ways.

I've also used that msg to cause disruption to travel ease of opponent alliances.
spacetrace: (i meant probe slots)

how about a basic research with a short research time that enables you to get the messages - it should have a little drawback though...
T2: Just go ahead and get rid of the msg. I'd like to try it out and be a
"little more sneaky"
MMUUUUHHHHHAAAAAAAA . ;)

After all, if trace probes became a problem (can't see how !) you can always reverse it and put the warning back.
Senor: yea, just remove it. it would be confusing to have a research just to get a warning from trace probes...
spacetrace: we just remove it but some day we could add a basic research that could do some stuff - advanced intelligence, or smt.

it could do more stuff than just showing the trace probe messages... i will keep it in mind
