ok, ok.. first off.. Do they program the game? all i see is "Quality marketing and media relations"...

They don't program, but they can give us the source code and can make contact with X-bow Studios ( i couldn't find them online... )
Also, they sell in REAL LIFE shops! like Virgin, and other better game shops...

Scolar Visari wrote:
you got to look at the whole picture.. they will only distribute and *** you off your profits.. not program, debug, and finalize..

I think you didn't understand yet, so i'll explain again: ST=Non-Profit, right? So, if we sell/give them our game, we can spend the money on X-Bow, maybe they will even publish it, but ST still has the copyrights, the idea, and a lot of the sketches/art, which were needed for the game, and therefor, we still earn a bit of money from X-Bow.

Scolar Visari wrote:
you need a company like Blizzard or something else who can make the game visually appealing.. "Excalibur Publishing".... Publishing.. need programing...

We'll ask X-Bow if they can do the modelling, and as long as we make the
drawings of the ships, they'll probably agree, since we

o and also.. are you trying to make this 3D? or better user interface? your pictures only show the same thing except modified... basically to look different..

3D, check out the demo of StarWolves, so you can see the interfaces, the ships, and the interactions... I find everything VERY smooth...

this whole project will be very difficult..

I never said it wouldn't be, so i'll repeat for the last time:

you're planning a utopia.
i don't want to trash your idea, but it's totally unreal.
i've been involved with more than one game projects, both 2d and 3d, and the most common problem people run against is that they always start with the way everything looks, without even knowing how they are going to program the engine of the game and tie the graphics together. so they end up with a pile of pieces of graphics and consept art...and there the project stays...
sorry dudes, but you are starting from the wrong end...
the first thing should be to write all your ideas and consepts down on a paper and plan exactly how you're going to do it. and that itself should take weeks if not months with a project with that scale. but writing is not fun, creating graphics is...right?

but don't let my words stop you if you believe in what you do.
take care!

Perhaps we should all buy lottery tickets, and give the winning to ST, so they can make this? Okay, thats a stupid idea...

2010... thats a long time... But better late then never. I still support the idea.

We could ask Bill Gates to hire some programmers, and promise him well all buy Windows Vista...

I am not helping am I....

I can do nothing to help this. I cant program, publish, make concept art, etc.

All I can do is make suggestions.

The admin had 2 chances to reply as far as i saw... why isn't he giving HIS comment?!

Anyway, i put the game on the ModDB web page, a huge collection of game mods, be it standalone, or based on the engine of a game, it's always free!

About the best I could do would be to create my own php interfaces on my end. The admin posted about this a while back. Without the actaul game code there is not much one could do (and it would get ruined by additional development).
Your interface merely needs to do a "data request and transmission" with the correct syntax...
EX. using the guest account (I deleted mine yesterday as we are taking a break....in mexico? ...hawaii? ..not sure yet and dont want to cancel the deletion by logging on):

http://www.spacetrace.org/probes.php?PHPSESSID=95795e27cfdb3e08496f9eafacb488a0&sessuser=testuser&

this request is made when you click on the probes button...the "PHPSESSID" is unique for each account...to get these...just right click on the control and "save shortcut" to the notepad or etc.

there is a trace probe reading "enemies" fleets and the shortcut for one of those fleets is:

http://www.spacetrace.org/com_player.php?touser=accessenemy&PHPSESSID=95795e27cfdb3e08496f9eafacb488a0&sessuser=testuser&

Note the way the "request" is assembled

Any other programing on the players end is limited to making data requests and transmissions. What is done with the data is up to the user
however the results have to be in the correct syntax to communicate with the acual game server code.

An AI is a much more complicated issue...I could spend a week trying to create an AI capable of say: sending out an investigation probe then building 3 1000 100 10 1's or similar and sending them to a random target in comm (and barely above the basics...this would not be hard to defend against). Reading dsp's, modifying stacks after running possible battle scenerios, and....the list goes on....is beyond most programmers, even the teams of experts in the corporate industry spend years in this area
AI programming is essentially a task that even requires assistance from...lol...psychiatrists...as human decision making must be disassembled, hacked, coded into an alogorythym, then to code, tested, debugged..., ..., ...

I will however work on a few php interfaces over the next few weeks...simple ones...perhaps an automation to keep fleet in motion and near the desired target without being present to change the courses...however I would still need to be logged on...

Dinsky's interface examples are actually feasible and could be done in reasonable time....

sure it would be nice to have a spacetrace version with a 3d-interface that you can download.

Who can program a mod for StarWolves?

we could give you access to the coordinates so you can insert all fleets, probes and planets ... into your standalone verision.

but the big question is: who has got the time to get into the programming of StarWolves?

DavAlan, i think you don't really understand it... The only thing like an AI is for the battles, to make ships attack each other at random. For the rest, there is NO AI in there since everything will be played by the people who buy/download the game, there are no computer generated enemies, except for the Dominion and such, but that's it.

I really appreciate the help you want to put into it tho, and if you could get us some sort of beta from the main screen, i would be really happy.

as far as we know, no one from the ST Community has ANY experience with StarWolves 2, therefore i put it on the ModDB site, where there are loads of modders, and modelers, and such. As a last resort, we can always ask X-Bow Studios to do it for us.

Well, that was abut it for the questions... What i also wanted to ask was if SkyFire could help DavAlan. He's the flash expert

As a marketable, stand alone exe (btw that programming would be done they way almost all the others are done...In C++ with sub-routines in assembler) an effective AI w/ advanced capabilities would be an absolute neccessity...but, enough of the speculation on making big $ on the ST concept as I really doubt the originality would remain after everyone got to add in thier "improvements" and etc. over the years of development anyway. Besides admin "owns" ST ...take mighty's "advice" and develop your own game

I will look into that one asap

Must be Skyfire (I am not him or vice versa-btw ) as I dont know much about composing flash presentations. I do know they are "fixed" so probably not the thing to use in say, a graphical display of battle results...unless you use the same sequences repeatedly or alternately, a selection to choose from and display to represent the battle. What you really need is "dynamic graphics" composed on the spot. And 3-D modeling will need to be done for every ship image to be used 1st.

ALSO: keep in mind that this "graphical post battle" representation is not going to improve anyones abilites...as a matter of fact it will be a major distraction. A real IA could be done by having you click on the mouse button every second while watching this really stupid video of a superhero beating an ungly creature with a sword and the opponent mp dropping -1 each time accompanied by a earsplitting audio wav played. You then emerge from an induced hypnosis to find 3 additional incomings have left you with 3 more videos to watch and click endlessly on ...would actaully be quite intelligent IMHO

Too much work. So just watch this:

bang head

while your mp drops 1x each time

Wait, your planning on making every single ship fight in the video?

People will start mass using doomstars, just to make the video shorter.

Perhaps only the class battles, for example:

Class 1 of player A moves in on c1 of player B, and c1 of player B starts to fire tons of shots. Huge explosions when fighters are destroyed, and deafening sounds when fire is returned. The fighters remaining (of the player who has got the least score from that subbatle) flee. Suddenly a huge shockwave destroys both c1's, as player A is a noob and uses a spectre AND a c1. Destroyers start firing, and and some are shielded by a shield generator. Then the other class battle happen.

You then see a guy give you a video message in the corner, saying you won the battle and got xxx points. Then you go to the text battle report.

Now player A notices he made another 10 battles, because he was being ratpacked by multi's.

After he begins watching the tenth video, he notices a small button in the corner. Its says: Skip Video
