The title says it all. Next to the edit button, a bump button. This button will be at the first post of the topic.
Now before you all come shouting about that all topics would be bumped up and bla bla bla, I present yet another suggestion:
A master of bumps.
This Master of Bumps (I should work on the name) will view all topics with a pressed bump button, and actually bump them up if he decides that they should be. This master of bumps is, or is assigned by, admin.
Make all the changes you want, the basic idea is good. I think.
This will prevent needless posts in those offtopic things such as ''riddles'' and ''funny stories'' but will bump them up, so some one can post in them once more. |

you are one of the main culprits for the off-topic spam
this appears to be a way for people with spam intent to find new topics becuase of you *bump button*
sounds to me like a way to find a fresh target for yourself and others like that |

You dont get it! The riddle's and the funny stories... They are not spam!
If someone wants people to start posting again, but doesnt have a riddle/funny story of his own, he does not have to make a useless post. This actually kindof prevents spam!

so basically
this is a away to index topics.
so what you are saying is, people who struggle to navigate the forum could launch this button to find fresh topics.
with the ability to catagorise topics that have not been posted in....
why not just use a forum search?...i dont know if this forum has one though. |

@phoenix: No... When you press the bump button, and the bump-admin accepts it, then it is displayed on the latest posts page, without an actual post having occured. It brings things under attention again. For example, an idea that was good, that everyone liked, but was forgotten,
And Phoenix... maybe...

Something like:

The War Effort invention had not been declared sucky at all. In fact, the one person that replied said it was a good idea.
Let me give an example why the bump button is handy:
A good topic, such as the riddle topic. We are now in say... 2009. Everyone has forgotten all about it. You want to bring it back to peoples attention. So you would post something in it to bump it up... Yet you know no riddle at all.... And the topic remains there... Forgotten.
But if he just presses the bump button, the topic is bumped up, without him having to make a useless post for the sole purpose of bumping it up.
When will you (not you as in you, but you as in you guys) understand?!
