Is it the newest idea? straight from the shelves? Never even thought of?

No, it's not, but that still doesn't make it less interesting!

The idea is, to make SpaceTrace Platinum a Standalone - Tho not an whole new game - version from ST, downloadable for your PC. Better graphics, simulations from battles, (with a SWEaWSB engine) and more options! Like noting diplomacy with players, groundbattles with a quake 3 mod...* your old 3D map is cr.ap. Use the Starwolves engine to generate the galaxy, and give orders in really real time! See your fleets as they are supposed to be seen, and see other when battling!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTX40p_O5Ds
Would you like graphics like that? Then support the ST Platinum Project!

All in all, this should make a 500mb, AND a lot more people playing ST! The only thing the servers need to do, is supply fleet coords, Messages, and such, and ofcourse support the "old" browser based game. The rest is done by your computer! And even THAT doesn't cost much memory either!

System Requirments**:
Pentium III 800 MHz or similar
Windows 98/ME/2000/XP
128 Mb RAM
GeForce 2 MX400 32 Mb video card or similar
keyboard
mouse

I hope you find this a good idea!

NOTES:
*Maybe it will appear...
** These are the minimum requirements for StarWolves, a game which engine is really good to use, since it seems to have all the aspects of the game, but the strategy...

i really think that this idea would be a sucess, i guess that people can have two galaxies, one in for their localhost and one in the internet, so u actually can practice over the galaxy at home and then u can kick ass at the online game....

even setting different level for the machine to play against...

1.- padawan
2.- liutenant
3.- Pro
4.- Master
5.- TO

lol....?

What does that have to do with the topic?

We can dream and dream, but I doubt this will ever happen.

And again, with blood, pain and sweat, new concept art was produced.
Check it out and rate it.

And yes, you too can try to add some things yourself! Get the basics here:

I don't know if we have a hardcore programmer amongst us (except for me, but i have to little time for this kind of stuff), else you will never get a working standalone engine behind it... Putting it on internet to work is 1 thing and that is relatively easy compared to a stand alone game.

You have to think that it can simulate, gotta have Artificial Intelligence working (cause where is the challenge if you haven't got them)
The simulation is even for a not so very experienced programmer easily made, but the AI is another story, and to think of dificulty lvls, so different kinds of AI and so big and challanging it doesn't get boring after 1 day of playing.
Also that kind of game isn't made in 1 month or so... There have to be years of developing, getting possible bugs out, etc
Which programming language is also the question, cause all different languages have their own (dis)advantages.

That are merely some points that you have to think of when you REALLY try making the game.

Don't get me wrong, i REALLY like the idea... the idea itself is awsome... nice designs too, but... if it can be done... that's the thing i doubt...
But... who knows!!!
Maybe there is a looney out there which about 1-2 years of spare time on his hands that can make it and make the admins rich with a $40,- game in the stores, known worldwide!!!! (yeah i know, that's a dream haha)

Regards,
DM

Well i personally think that this is highly capable of being created of course we would need the admin to give permissions to go to the server and call out the features within and maybe he should invest in a few more high-loading properties if the application takes alot of memory on the server to run. Although in general i think this would be able to be created.

Richard.

ok, ok.. first off.. Do they program the game? all i see is "Quality marketing and media relations"...

you got to look at the whole picture.. they will only distribute and rape you off your profits.. not program, debug, and finalize.. you need a company like Blizzard or something else who can make the game visually appealing.. "Excalibur Publishing".... Publishing.. need programing..

o and also.. are you trying to make this 3D? or better user interface? your pictures only show the same thing except modified... basically to look different..

this whole project will be very difficult..

You guys are all talking about it like it's a cakewalk to mod that game. In real life, you'll need to have alot of spare time to mod it. I think it's a dream that wont come true.
