We need to bring back IRC use , so to all players try to look in IRC more often especialy the new players . I also would like to invite some more experienced players to come back to IRC because we need to give the new players a little hand in understanding the game a bit better , so more players will stick arround longer 
we now have 177 players we need to get it back to at least 400
SO COME INTO IRC MORE OFTEN ALL OF YOU

my suggestion is the following:
it is not so effective to hang around in irc all the time and waiting for newbees. that's why we should have a newbee-hour for example sunday 18:00 GMT
some noob-helpers will wait there and will give help.

I don't know, the time zones are different u know... if say someone in australia wanted to go on ST IRC, he should get up on 6.00 to get there, assuming that that time is GWT. Than rather give your e-mail and MSN so u can chat all together too. I think the IRC chat is either quite a waste of money if ST pays for it, and otherwise a waste of MBs on the server. If it is a free online service, it is still a waste loading time as the button has to be loaded too. ( okay that's a bit of a minor detail but i had to think of something...)

Well I don't need all ST players in my MSN list , Therefore IRC would be a better solution . And first of all you have never been there to know what benefit IRC used to have to new players , only minor thing now is that not much players are active on IRC , that is why we would like to bring it back 
If ST IRC doesn't work try to download MIRC , I use it and it works fine

I may try "chatzilla". Firefox crashes whenever I try to use it in IRC and Mozilla beta version works but it takes me about 5 minutes to connect in upon initial launch.
I learned more tips on IRC from other players than from anywhere else ( thanks Dave & Renee).
I just don'ty like having to split my comp screen into many windows to see the game screens + be active on IRC. I certainly will help whenever I am on to whoever needs it , if I am capable. |

yes , but we have to choose one date & time. 18:00 GMT is something about 12:00 in the usa and 21:00 in moscow. i think that is a good time on a sunday.

IRC has many advantages, it is free, the clients are free of charge, it is an aged system-> bug free, it is an open internet standart, it is availble for anyone without registration, it is not owned by a evil Company like AOL or Microsoft  ... ehem, not bad, isn't it ?

I only use it when I see people using it. And sometimes I do log on, but then people are on, yet never an answer.
