@Evans - true, admin has the final word
-but-
what's the point of putting so much effort in creating and maintaining a game for more than 4 years (his forum account dates Dec 2001), which prosperred with players between 400 and 600 - and to let it die because of not wanting to give up on his own idea, evolution? Well, rounds too were his idea in the first place.
If he decides to ignore us... AGAIN... Well, it is his game, so, maybe he'll be playing it all by himeslf pretty soon.
I mean, how many of you will stick around where there are 100 players in space? Or just 80?
This is pure statistics - with rounds, a nice, variable number of players - between 400 and 600. Evo - decreasing constantly, atm - 190.
In other words - rounds = more players. Evo = dead spacetrace. _________________ _____________________________________________

I voted evo, but after all I regret it I think.
Rounds sounds cool. Evo is good, but rounds maybe better, more fair, but not nice for new players _________________ Feel the force of the warelephant |

I have never played Rounds however, the numbers speak for themselves.
Especially the # of people who used to play compared to now.
The Vet's of the game all can't be wrong
I do enjoy evo though. Whatever happens, I'm in till I can "evo out" in the top 10 |

20 votes for rounds/3 for evo in 3 days... Doesn't that show a thing or two (21/2 if Hannibal indeed is inclined to changing his vote) _________________ _____________________________________________

sorry to answer so late, but i am on holidays right now.
we are trying to improve the game all the time, and decided to establish a continung existence of the spacetrace universe with the evolution. changing back to rounds would be a step backwards.
i think in the old days with rounds there were 2 problems:
- for new players to get into the game was hard, cause if you dont play from the start it was impossible to find targets, that are your level.
- when a new round started many players left the game.
the only thing i could imagine for the future is a parallel universe with rounds. but the changing to rounds would be a lot of work for us, and we dont get paid for the game, so this is why we keep it as it is right now, cause the game works fine now.
i think what would be a big challenge would be some events happening in space.
we discuss this here:
http://www.spacetrace.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=56837#56837
so we should close this topic for now, cause we will not change back to rounds. |

A reason I don't understand cause the evolution simply is a step back.
Argumentation:
admin wrote: | i think in the old days with rounds there were 2 problems:

Yes, but that problem is considerably less threathening to the game then the whole concept of n00bbashing.
If everybody starts at the same time, there aren't newbies that come in half way and get trashed everywhere. One of the biggest problems we have atm would be solved and we wouldn't have all these ideas to protect the game ( universe zones, parralel universes and so on. )
Plus getting rounds back in is easier then implementing all those newbie-protecting changes.
admin wrote: | - when a new round started many players left the game. |
Well it is the other way around, and you can't denie it. Masses of players have left due to evolution.
Reasons:
- Less competition
- Newbie bashing
And here are the benefits of rounds versus evolution:
- More players
It is very clear that the number of players has been in a constant decline since evolution.
- Constant competition ( reaching top 10 now is no fun, there is no competition at all. With events there would be SOME competition, but with rounds it would be endless thrilling and nice. )
I guess the lack of competition makes people leave, and it makes it less attractive for people to join back in.
- Better for newbies.
It makes it very hard for people to keep liking the game and stay here for more then a month.
To add even more, I said this earlier on in my post:
Code: | Yes, but that problem is considerably less threathening to the game then the whole concept of n00bbashing.
If everybody starts at the same time, there aren't newbies that come in half way and get trashed everywhere. One of the biggest problems we have atm would be solved |
admin wrote: | the only thing i could imagine for the future is a parallel universe with rounds. |
That would be a positive change into the right direction.
But is it this:
admin wrote: | but the changing to rounds would be a lot of work for us, |
Or is it this:
admin wrote: | and we dont get paid for the game, |
That makes the changes not happen? Cause if it is the first one, ask somebody else to HELP. Not take over the game or something else, just some help. More hands make lighter work.
And if it is the second one, well just say so I'll start donating right away and I am sure others will do so also.
admin wrote: | so this is why we keep it as it is right now, cause the game works fine now. |
Nope it isn't the game is slowly dieing. |

If they dont get payed for the game then where does the money from the advertisements go? and if there were 2 universes, one round one evo, you can see for yourself which people like more. Its admins call but that does not mean that it is the best call. After a year how many people will still be playing spacetrace? 90? 60? 50? 20? Perhaps admin is wrong. And the poll has more than 20 people saying admin is wrong and that the rounds should come back. I will advertise for spacetrace when i can but if the game is boring then I do not expect the new people to stay. Admin can say that this topic should be closed or he can even lock it. but that will not do anything. Spacetrace is sinking in the ocean until it hits the bottom and nobody can pull it out. Somoeone needs to pull it out before that happens, and the only person that can do that is admin. will he? I am not so sure... _________________ Take your weapons soldiers! We march to battle!
