That was me...
From what i have heard the admins are very busy people, they might not get enough time to read through all this. maybe you should try PMing them your ideas so they take you seriously .... _________________ Follow the blood and you will find me!

It's his responsability to read this, if he reads a PM why wouldn't read the important topics?... |

the number 1 reason would be that I started this Topic and im a known spamer
And he gets notified of PM he most likely wouldnt with the forum topics
And it would show him that you are serious about it ... _________________ Follow the blood and you will find me!

I got some people in my comlist offline for only 10 h or so but most its 2 days and above. I log on every day, but if they have nothing to do they probably wont. Not that im a ST expert but its a possibility. _________________ Take your weapons soldiers! We march to battle! We march to glory! We march to the enemy! And we march to death! hmmm... you ask about rounds... What was SO attractive in 'em...how can one describe them... ok, check this out for instance:
Stats for round V.
http://www.spacetrace.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1491
I didn't make it to fourth place because of 75 points, he overtook me literally in the last day of the round... I remember it even now, even though long has passed since April 2003...
Can you give me any sort of signifficance for a f*cking 75 points now? Do 75 pts mean anything to anyone?!
With rounds, playing is extremely tense. You have a clock ticking, but it's the same clock for everyone. Round ends at a certain date, period. You joined late - your loss. Every hour online, every battle counted. You lost a few? Your loss. Next round, you'll make it. Points ment something. Top 10 had some signifficance... actually, a huge signifficance. You couldn't afford to ditch the game, and join in 2-3 times a day for a few mins, if you wanted to be in it... but unlike hall of fame, there was a separate top10 every round - so even "dry" rounds didn't bother (less players around - less possibilities and therefore score - bye, bye hall of fame... ).
And the last days... you're glued to the chair. In the above example, I managed to do 2000 at almost the last moment to get to fourth place, and truly in the last, I get pushed away for 75 pts. Dilemmas like "Dammit, 7h to build a DSP, and even more for it to arrive, I'm loosing time to improve my top10... or should I go in blind? But if I loose a few hundred?!"...
With rounds, there's a thrill. With evo - none...
Imagine a car race, where the prize goes to the one who makes most laps for a certain period of time... at which those who started late... get a personal time? Instead of just having the same deadline? And the prize is passed around all the time?! Isn't that ridiculous?! Who'd wanna participate in that race...
PS Rubens, the BH pulled my fleet in at least twice _________________ _____________________________________________

Yeah, they gave a certain degree of reason to play ST. Imagine a, well, a Diablo II server for example... which isn't restarted every once in a while, but instead, players have 3 months to build their character, then - poof! Start again. Everyone - at a different time. Imagine what that does to the ladder(in ST-top10), and, in turn, you'll get a picture of what has happened so far and is happening to ST.
Usually, new ships would be placed on pre-warps somewhat near the end of the round. Then, they'd be added not mid-game, but as the next round starts. Other changes also usually got added in the next round...
Also, there were breaks between rounds. The game was not 24/365. My memory fails me at this point, but they were signifficant in lenght - deffinately more than 2 weeks, maybe more than a month... not sure. Theese breaks were very vital - by the time of the announcement of the new round, you're so eager to start, you get addicted even more without actually playing ST... unlike with evo.
I personally created my account I use now... 2-3 months after deciding to do so
Breaks also gave admin a, well, a break, so I think that's a signifficant reason why he too was more interested in the game itself back then - returning to the game with renewed strength and will etc .
And, of course, the s.ucking of fleets in the black hole - my memory fails me about the details though .
If I remember right, it would first s.uck the fleets you sent somewhere, s.ucking them in mid-flight... then, (later?) it'll s.uck those who you've just built, right out of the base fleet <- don't remember if it did that if you didn't have a MS at base. For a massive last battle, which didn't affect your score, but was extremely funny to watch (funnier than the Dominion for sure ), also you could test an outrageous on first sight ship combo and stuff in that last truly massive battle... _________________ _____________________________________________

Anywho, I think(well, actually, hope) that the main reason for not re-introducing rounds is not the studbourness of admin, rather than the lack of a straight-forward way to return to rounds. I mean, how do u end evo? There are people who just started (I hope), make 'em re-register? And those with 80%-90%? End their game short? What of those at 50%? etc.
I think the most efficient way of doing it is this - when admin decides to re-introduce rounds, there would be a *transition round* of some sort, which should look basically as if there was a round all along.
E.g. the end-date(ED) is set in such a way, so that the evo of the newest player will deffinately be over by then. Then, all players' evo is disabled (e.g. if done in a truly *lazy* manner, it would still stay in HQ screen, but might reach 150% for example, just that no Dominion etc.).
The *starting date*(SD) of the transition round should also be set. (Although it would be back in time).
Then, THIS is what happens. In the Hall of Fame go the points you've made between the day you started and the day you went 100% on evo.
In the top10 for the round - the score you made between SD and ED. If this score is higher than the evo-one, well, it'll go into the HoF.
It'll require some programming, but, it's done only once, and, I think, it'll be the most fair way to do so.
When the transition round is over, a normal one may start.
What do u think? _________________ _____________________________________________

What do i think? I think the admin should read some topics.
Do we really have to PM him? Com'on, we (Or just u) are giving ideas and more ideas, and nobody says something:(
Well what can i say? The description of how you feel a round is already written, as my opinion...wich is...ROUNDS BACK!!! |

Hmmm... maybe we should do a sort of petition - e.g. put a voting poll on rounds (like THAT hasn't been done before... ain't sure, but suspect it has), at which, everyone not only votes, but leaves a message too (e.g. "I am for rounds" or "I'm against rounds", not just votes)... then, we PM admin about the result of the topic
Bombing admin's PM wouldn't be a good idea - he'll simply stop reading it _________________ _____________________________________________
