how about we make the ELO a side score, we keep the current score system and add the ELO system, everyone startes with 1200 ELO points, when u win a battle u get 5% of myopponent's ELO and that is suptracted from his, but the ELO is modified when all the battles are tallied. so u attack ur enemy with 2 fleets u only get ur ELO modified once. if u win few points but lose alot more your oponent gets 5% of your ELO, maybe this is simpler??

That wouldnt balance out.

Once people started getting pretty high scores, they would start to skyrocket. And people with high ratings would take too much from lower ranked players.

Rating: 2000, beat him for 100 points
Rating: 1000, beat him for 50 points
This doesnt work.

The key to ELO is balance. If a 2000 player beats a 1000 player, he would get probably 1 point. If a 1000 player beats a 2000 player, he gets like 40 points.

Using the official ELO ranking system would almost completely cut out noob bashing. Once you get a high ranking, you only want to fight other high ranking players, so you dont lose too many points if he wins.

Also, it would make veterans stand out.
A player has 100,000 points, but his ELO is only 1400.
Another player has 50,000 points, and his ELO is 1950.
This tells you that the 1400 player is very active, and fights a lot of battles for big score. He also takes on a lot of noobs.
The 1950 player doesnt fight as much, but his fights are quality.
I would be much more wary of the 1950 player than the 1400 player, even though the 1400 player has double the score!

This system would only work if everyones ELO was open for all to see.

This would mean absolutely nothing. Earn it!

The idea has considerable merit and deserves serious consideration.
One of the problems with ST's enrollment is the noob bashers.
Not intentional but nature of the beast as it works out.
It also allows experienced players to more readily identify new players and perhaps bring them in gently until they know thier way around.

Some Noob bashers just do it for the points so it might also stop by, other veterans attacking the noob bashers!
