Adelaide crows

are playing

Port Adelaide power.

In the AFL semi finales

the two teams are the two biggest rivals in AFL history, they are playing for the chance to go onto the grand finale and win. It is the first time the two teams have meet in a finales environment, should be one of the greats game of the season at the moment it is half-time, and right now Crows are wining by 7 points!

So far it has been an awesome game, full report later after the game has finished!

Two fights have broken out and 5 people have been knocked out

I go for the Crows they Rule!

Port Adelaide's premiership defence has ended in humiliation as the Adelaide Crows proved they are now the undisputed kings of South Australian football by easily winning Saturday night's first-ever finals meeting between the clubs.

The Crows won their fourth showdown in their past five encounters against Port - their greatest winning run against the Power - but as former Prime Minister Paul Keating once said "This was the sweetest victory of all."

After an even but mistake-riddled first half, Adelaide produced a devastating eight goal to one third term to win this knockout semi-final 18.15 (123) to 5.10 (40), a victory which will give Crows' fans bragging rights in Adelaide for a long time.

The win sets up a replay of the Crows' round 22 clash against West Coast in Perth in next Saturday's preliminary final at Subiaco and Adelaide will certainly travel west with plenty of confidence following its mauling of Port and knowing it beat the Eagles in Perth only three weeks ago.

The Crows' win also sets up the prospect of another clash with St Kilda, which beat the Crows at home in last week's qualifying final, in the grand final should the Crows beat the Eagles and St Kilda beat Sydney at the MCG in next week's two preliminary finals in what would also be a re-match of the 1997 grand final.

But what is certain is the AFL will have two new grand finalists this season after Port surrendered its 2004 crown meekly in front of a sold-out crowd of more than 50,000.

Port was aiming to become the first eighth-placed team to reach the preliminary final, since the final eight began in 1994, while Adelaide was aiming to ensure it did not become the first minor premier to bow out of the finals in straight sets since North Melbourne in 1983.

And after half-time it was easy to see just which team had finished the season on top of the ladder with 17 wins and which had fallen into the finals in eighth spot with just 11 and-a-half wins.

The Crows' magnificent backline - the best statistically in the AFL since 1968 - strangled the life out of Port early and then had precious little work to do after the break as the Crows' rampant midfield and much-improved attack took control of the game.

With veteran ruckman Matthew Clarke getting first hands on the ball, Adelaide was simply unstoppable in the third term after having led by seven points at the end of a first half which featured just seven goals.

The Crows' stars also lifted when the match was in the balance in the third term with dual Norm Smith Medalist Andrew McLeod kicking a great goal on the run from 50 metres at the five minute mark as Adelaide suddenly opened up a 19 point lead.

With the bulk of the huge crowd behind them, the Crows split the game open with their non-stop running as skipper Mark Ricciuto, who was strangely quiet in the first half, snapped a great goal at the nine minute mark, and when Scott Welsh goaled from 50 metres at the 11 minute mark, the Crows were 25 points up.

The much underrated Tyson Edwards was in everything for Adelaide and when he goaled at the 17 minute mark, the Crows were 37 points up and the game was over.

In between the goals from Welsh and Edwards, the Crows really rubbed Port's nose in it when full-back Ben Rutten, who kept Port skipper Warren Tredrea goalless, snuck forward and goaled from 45 metres - much to the delight of Adelaide fans.

By the last change Adelaide was 51 points up and showed just how superior it was by kicking six goals to one into the breeze in the final term.

However while Adelaide ended up crushing Port there was little between the teams in a poor first half, in which both teams flooded their defences with extra players as both teams were guilty of overusing the ball, kicking too short and making skill errors as the huge occasion seemed to affect players from both sides.

A bone-jarring hip and shoulder bump from Byron Pickett - which sent Adelaide ruckman Rhett Biglands off the ground on a stretcher - briefly brought the crowd to life in the second term although Biglands was able to return after the break.

But after the break the only noise in the crowd came from delirious Crows' fans as Welsh finished with four goals and Simon Goodwin and Ian Perrie three apiece as Adelaide scored its biggest-ever win over Port as well as keeping Port to its lowest-ever score against the Crows.

ADELAIDE: 3.4, 4.7, 12.9, 18.15 (123)
PORT ADELAIDE: 2.1, 3.6, 4.6, 5.10 (40)

GOALS – Adelaide: Welsh 4, Goodwin 3, Perrie 3, McGregor 2, McLeod, Ricciuto, Rutten, Edwards, Shirley, Hentschel
Port Adelaide: Mahoney, Pettigrew, S. Burgoyne, Wanganeen, Pearce
BEST – Adelaide: Edwards, Goodwin, Ricciuto, Clarke, Rutten, Bassett, Burton, McLeod
Port Adelaide: C. Cornes, K. Cornes, Montgomery, Wakelin
UMPIRES -Vozzo, Allen, McLaren
CROWD - 50,521 at AAMI Stadium
