right here is my idea to make pre-warp worlds useful... ok here goes:

you have a ship called the coloniser, if you send it to a pre-warp world, it begins to change that world into a warp world, it takes 3 days to convert a world from one form to the other.

this converted planet then has its own MP and ship yard and defensive array (effectivly another one of your planets with out the research center), but you can't control the ships that are built, read on, now here's the tricky bit...

for 10 sectors around the planet, becomes your space, like territory, and any ship that enters that area will be attacked by the ships that are made on the converted planet, and for every member of the allaince there is, this area gets increaed by 2 sectors, so a four man allaince, each area will be 18 sectors big... do you get???

also you can only have 2 extra planets per person, and one super one per allaince, this makes the allaince center...

well...??

Here is an idea.


As we all know, there are 5 major races of the galaxy.
Human
Mycelloid
Kazuula
E-ray
Nanite.

However, we have never heard of the minor races. The only ones that were ever mentioned were the Dylars. But it would not be good to set them as an alliance as it is that extinct race that stands for multying.
Well anyway, my idea.
A special ship (Perhaps Kandos' Coloniser) converts a pre-warp into a NPP (Non-Playable Planet) that is completelely computer controlled.
It takes 3 days for a pre-warp planet to be onverted into a warp planet (as kandos said)
Now, for every planet that you convert, you will get 50 points for every day that it survives.
A planet will operate exactly like a player and it will attack different players randomly. An NPP will survive for 3 weeks, then then it will reach 100% the dominion will then attack turning the NPP into a normal pre-warp planet once again.
However, the shipyard on this planet is a once off thing. If it is destroyed by any player the NPP will automatically turn back into a pre warp planet.
Finally, because this is a minor race, they cannot research anything.
They only have basic ships.
This idea is long so i have a summary below:


SUMMARY:
(1.)If you want to turn a pre-warp planet into a warp-capaple planet you send a coloniser to it.
(2.)It will take 3 days for the pre-warp planet to change into a warp-capable culture.
(3.)The new planet will be entirely computer controlled, and you cannot control it at all.
(4.)For everyday day this planet survives you will get 50 points. (You can colonise as many planets as you wish).
(5.)This planet will have a defence array nad a shipyard.
(6.)This planet can survive for three-weeks, as soon as this limit is reached the dominion of the travellers will come along and turn it back into a pre-warp planet.
(7.)Because the culture on the planet does not fully understand our highly advanced warfare, its shipyard is once off. If it is destroyed, it cannot grow back. This means, that any player can attack it and if he destroys the shipyard, the planet will return to a pre-warp planet (the interesting thing is sometimes the defence array may remain)
(8.)Finally, the species on the planet will have around the same manpower as any other player, but they may only have basic ships in their fleets.


I think this will truly turn the game to a new level, because if every player made five of these planets, then this would compensate for the lack of new players

couldn t be bothered to read ur post methi, i apologize if my idea is similar. why don t the planets just have a 3 sector radius dsp-like scanner. call it a colonization probe, u can build 3 in addition to your own probes.

this would be a good idea but i personally like it the way it is

nah don't like it
it will turn to a new level of gaming and a big part you don;t controle
so you can loose points in not controling cause you can win also

and there no place i see you can have max pre warp worlds developing
and how about a selfdestrucktion if a prewarp wolrd is build
atherwise you can hop from 1 to another and go on foerever with 1 ship

i don't like this idea

non controling and think if you start hopping ithout SD it can make to manny points

i would personaly preffer the original idea that sounds like it would work out very well but my question is if the planet is technically part of your alliance could you make it the flag commader as well or no?

I suggest to make an alliance center with a stronger defense array and destroying it gives the enemie about 5000 points.

Also, about pre-warps. If u discover them, they are yours. They have about 3000 mp to defend only. U can say what is the composition of the fleet, but only basic ships. U get about 200 points as long as it survives. The planet has a normal shipyard and a normal defense array. If the buildings are destroyed, like methi said, they cant be rebuild.

destroying it gives u only 1000 points for the shipyard and defense array, and also the points for killing the ships. No extra's. U sould be satisfied by the fact your enemie lost their points vault.

U can discover it with a colonisation ship. That everybody can research. The ship should have 0/1500 and it costs 800 mp. It converts it to a SWP. Special Warp Planet, instead of its former state, the Pre-Warp Planet. ( Stolen form kandos idea)

The SWP should also have a 4 sectors dsp.


Afterall this is a more balanced composition of my ideas and the things Kandos and Methi suggested.

This wouldnt give to much points but still adds a other dimension that even the newbies can understand ok?


Please give comment or add things that u like. But keep it balanced

I forgot to add this:

only 5 SWP's per player. And they last for three weeks, then killed by dominion. If they are killed, they become PWP again and can be colonised again.
