I really thought I understand how it works, but this battle report confused me a bit, cause no ship of class2 survived...
Perhaps someone can explain why? I thought a shield is only generated if the target ship is not destroyed (LP >-1)...
So why none has survived???
your class 2 vs enemy class 2:
you:
26 destroyers
10 shield generators
1 missile-launcher
1 spectre
enemy:
179 destroyers
10 shields generated
1 missile launched
1 heavy shock wave detected: destructed 494 ships
26 destroyers vs 26 destroyers
2 destroyers vs 1 spectre
10 destroyers vs 10 shield generators
1 destroyer vs 1 missile-launcher
26 destroyers vs 26 destroyers
losses:
you :
26 destroyers
1 missile-launcher
10 shield generators
1 spectre
enemy :
26 destroyers

I think, the destroyers must have shot the shields before they could protect anything. Shields are mysterious.
I think the battle message is hard to understand though. I have noticed the message shields generated before and it does not mean ships are always saved, perhaps admin could have a look at the whole battle report. It is another reason not the downgrade the spectre to lp10 I think.

This are the battle details of the sg:
Quote: | battle details:
tries to generate a shield around one ship in your fleet in the same class it is fighting
battlemessage: "shield generated ... ships"
(battle engine syntax: shield,1,shield generated)
|
It says TRIES, so if a sg gets its turn, it sends the message even if it never raised a shield.
Too bad that the specter had no sg following it, it could´ve been saved because it takes two destroyers to bring one specter down, so it would´ve been damaged but not destroyed. |

HMM, another question:
Destroyers have 10/10, but if a Destroyer shots another destroyer, a SG can save him, right? So, the hp are not allow to fall below 0, or is a ship with 0 hp also not "saveable" ??? I think it is (otherwise the SGs would be useless), correct me if iam wrong!
According to this : how high is the possibility (chance?) that ALL my 10 SGs gets their turn BEFORE the other ships? It tends to 0 I would say, so why the hell NONE of my class2 ships survived? and the battlereport said 10shields generated, why??? why does the SG generate a shield around a ship which is already totally (hp < 0 ) destroyed? a bit confusing I think...
Perhaps this ship needs some fixes..

I dont think, in normal circumstances a shield generator can save a destroyer from another destroyer.
@Admin please correct this if I am wrong.
But having said that I have had battles where only destroyers and shields were involved, and the enemy did get a couple of ships to survive, I thought it was odd at the time but, I have never fully understood shields so I cannot say for sure.
I think shields are only supposed to activate when a ship gets a survivable hit (like a fighter or an eagle vs destroyer)

Shield generators don't save ships that have 0 lp, they only save ships that have have lp>0.
I think shield generators will save any ship, no matter how the battle order is, as long as the hit ships had their turn before the sg do.
In this case the only ship that could have been saved was the spectre. Maybe the sg didn't have their turn at the very beginning but were destroyed before the spectre got its turn.
I often had a br telling that shields were generated although no ship was saved, so it seems the battle message is also told when the action wasn't succesful... |

Ok, but if the SG cant save a destroyer if he is hit by another, its nearly complete senseless to have them... (ok, except for spectres...)
Another suggestion : why not made them (SGs) only protect ships which REALLY NEEDS this protection, and not ships which are already destroyed completely? Quite unlogical, dont you think so?

the prob is, that your shield gen sets the target counter of the enemy to your next ship.
so for ex.:
1. your enemy shoots with his destroyer at one of your destroyers -> destroyed
2. your shield gen moves the enemy target counter to your next ship (this would have happened anyway, by the time, the enemy gets its turn, so this shield gen is wasted)
3. your enemy shoots with an eagle at one of your destroyers -> still alive
4. your shield gen gets its turn, so your destroyer is saved
...
so it can be quite useful in many situations |

So do they do it automatically?
If I have for example ten sg, will they only set the counter on the next ship for the first ten ships in the battle order?
