I'm curious how many people who play ST are also musicians of some sort.
Tell us about it

I like listening to music but I ca'nt play a thing.

The only think we play at school is on keyboards or drums.. which kinda sucks. Sure, you can take music lessons, but then you get extra homework so I don't play anything.

Playing music is all about having fun using something besides a keyboard and CPU. I guess if music don't "Stir" you and it is another homework assignment, you would not get the joy out of making good music. It takes hours and hours of practice (not homework) to get good at making music but the only way you improve is by doing it. It is something you cannot buy and you must earn the ability.
Like any good game, it takes a while to get the hang of it but when you do, the pleasure it brings you in accolades, self satisfaction and pride is something that can't be purchased.

What kind of gear are you guys using ?
ATM we are living in a "GOLDEN AGE" for cheap, well made pacrim built instruments.
There are some incredible instruments out there for 1/10 the price of the BIG name brands that play and sound as good at 1/10 the price.

I have my Grandmother's , Mothers piano it's old and sounds like a dream Beautiful birdseye maple soundboard. It does need some work however to get it back into good shape. I also have from my fathers side of the family an old player piano that you pump and it plays itself. It also still works but needs some work. The bellows in it leak and you have to pedal like crazy to make enough vacuum to make it play.
Should have seen it the day I figured out how it all worked and then hooked up a vacuum cleaner to it. That old piano danced across the floor it was striking the strings so hard but OHHHHHHH what a sound !
They used pre-made rolls or scrolls that actually played the song. These were available a couple hundred years ago. The original way to sell music. They sure could make a good sound. It was like the guy who was playing had 4 or 5 hands all going at once on the keys.

similar to a music box.

they are pretty impressive, i have used one to record a piano part for a song i wrote.

only problem with piano is that because it is the standard musical instrument, you need a lot of flare to be considered talented...

on piano, i lack that flare

I loved the "flair" Jerry Lee Lewis exhibited in his style of piano. Ever see the movie Great Balls of Fire ? Dennis Quaid actually learned the piano from Jerry to do that flick.
I loved the scene where he set his piano on fire !
