in fact the whole operating system is much better structured. anyway sometimes occur hardware problem, but that is a problem about the hardware manufacturers. The os byitself is really better. The 3d desktop is really nice to use and some of its features help oraganizing tasks.
many good software many people use are based on linux like : firefox, vlc , openoffice and more... and finally .. it's completely free, not even free of charge but free as in "freedom of speech"...

citation (tron 1982)
Sark: You've got it. I've been hopin' you'd send me somebody with a little more guts... what kind of program is he?
Master Control Program: He's not any kind of program, Sark. He's a User.

Hmm, I'm still remembering the time you talked me into installing suse, and I could not use my modem with it. That computer is gone now, thank god, never could uninstall suse either grr.

yes,yes i know, that is long ago. Most hardware is running today.

today there are complete live cds: a whole system whichs runs a complete linux system from cd without any installation (free of charge). Maybe you should try that

after all microsoft products have neckbreaking licences which dominate the world of informatics and the users. anyway it's the users choice.

For people who think linux isn't easy enough to use, try MacOSX. This is basically a UNIX system but with some nice sweet looking cover.

And it's solid, reliable and fast.

Well I'm going for Vista when all the major bugs are out of it, include a mean looking direct-x 10 card in it and play crysis.

vista looks ok , but needs newest hardware .... conspiracy ?
and you have a nauthy license... when your hardware fails you need to purchase a new vista.. that sucks!

the linux video above is made with an old graphics card on an older pc.

beryl uses opengl. nvidia cards are pretty good supported.

but the problem is always:
not that linux can support any hardware ... hardware manufacures will not cooperate with linux for several reasons....

esp. older hardware is supported much better because windows 98 is no longer under development. On a 500 MHZ Pentium III you can run a modern linux system (under active development) with everything (sound, moivies, etc.) exept new-games. But even DVD-video-editing will work. On such machines even XP would be too resource hungry.

whatever

yeah the live cd is really kewl, and linux itself is great and must of come a long way by now, the 3d desktop rocks. You can put projects on each side, so handy. Can you still make a dual boot, xp and linux?

dual boot is no problem, the linux installer detects automatically any other operating system. You just need a free partition around 5 GB, better 10.

beryl isn't included in the live cd , but you can test if all hardware works.

mirror list

do not forgeet to type "live" at the first prompt!
