What is the number of probes required to scan the surrounding space (up to a radius of 30 sectors)of your planet? |

well there are many defferent probs, but the best is long range probe that can do 17 sectors scan, but it is really slow in moving, and i thin you need 2,3 of them to scan 30 sectors (maybe more)

i think 6 wsp would just about do it.
But, as you all know, I cant count.

Me, too I think you need 1 wide-range scan probe to scan 30 sectors. But 30 sectors radius is something else... It is very difficult to scan without leaving any planets out.
I think you need about 15 wide-range scan probes to scan 30 sectors radius without leaving anything out. |

one wide range scans 17 radius, it is possible to calculate how many is needed for 30 sector but it is really hard, and i am to lazy to do it
so u can do it your self

To scan 30 sectors radius using standard investigating prode without leaving too many planets out, you require 26 probes. |

better: you have 26 agents telling you all the coords |

I really think one wsp up one down 20 sectors in each vector from your planet will give you as much info on neighbours as you could possibly need

Have tried with 26 investigating probe. It works. By calculation I will have 15% overlap and 15% space undetected.
My next project is to detect 47 sectors radius using wsp. Do i need another 26 or much more?? |

I don't know which tactic you use but using mine you'd need 64 wide-range scan probes. You'd then scan 512000 (80³) sectors but also wouldn't leave anything out.
I calculated that the "netto-time" you need to build and send all the probes would be: 2757 hours or 115 days or ca. 3.8 months. If you use all three probes for the project it should "only" take a third of the time...
On the other hand you have about the same relation between radius and scanradius, so I'm not sure... To scan a cube of 30³ sectors around my planet (I always calculate and scan in cubes) i would need 125 investigation probes...

but the probe doesent scan in cubes, they scan spherical - you would need a pile order like when you stack oranges into a box |

actually one w-r-p scans
4/3 * 17³ * ¶ = 20579.5 sectors (¶=3.14159265)
so for 80³3=512000 sectors you would need at least 24.8 probes but you will have problems to fit the sheres into each other so i guess youll need about 28
the initial question was how many for 30 sectors around the base, so 4/3 * 30³ * ¶ = 113097,3 sectors.
so for 30³ sectors you would need only 5.5 w-r-probes or 54 investigation probes

I did say six I think. Leave the maths to the Wizz and Phileman I reckon.

I agree with the first part:
the initial question was how many for 30 sectors around the base, so 4/3 * 30³ * ¶ = 113097,3 sectors.
But disagree with this second part:
so for 30³ sectors you would need only 5.5 w-r-probes or 54 investigation probes
Because each investigation probe had a scanradius of 10 sectors, therefore volume scanned is 4/3*10^3*¶ = 4188.8 sectors.
By direct division i would require 113097.3/4188.8=27 probes which i used.
Because of its spherical nature i had 15% overlaps and 15% unscanned space which is acceptable.
To scan the radius of 30 sectors requires 9 rounds of probing (27/3). Each round need 4 hrs to Produce and 4 hrs to dispatch (total 8 hrs. Therefore total time is 72 hrs.
I succeeded in "com relays establishing" 56 planets. Found 50 abandoned planets and 50 pre-warp-worlds.
How to sell the planet for points?
