now before i get flamed for noobishness, i haven't seen this posted in the immediate index so i decided to throw my 2 cents in:

make a probe that works like the I-probe, but instead in scans and travel at the same time. yea it sounds like it would give a big advantage and make it too easy to scan the galaxy. so instead of yielding results immediately, make the probe go slow, like warp 3 or 4(not too slow or too big of a waste) and then yield results after it arrives at its destination.

for example:

probe goes from point A to point B at warp 5 scanning 10 sectors around. on arrival, all results are given.

obviously, this probe would not find cloaks etc. just a way to expand your knowledge of the universe quicker.
