What is the duration between the two fleets you sent? 10 secs, 1 min or 1 hour?

Had detected a fleet 5 sectors away. What do I do? Wait for him to attack? I do not have mothership or transwarp-network.

1. I'd look if he flying towards another planet which is 5 sectors away.
2. If he isn't I'd build a vessel scan so you can at least see his fleet composition before he attacks.
3. Try to arrange your fleet in a way he won't make points or at least not too many; if it is only one fleet one ship in each class could be enough (exept for if he has sabotage fighters or similar ships).
4. If you are in an alliance call your mates. (actually you need a transwarpgate for that, but not necessarily)

Your suggestion of:
"If he isn't I'd build a vessel scan so you can at least see his fleet composition before he attacks." The vessel scan has a 0 speed and a scanradius of 3 sectors. Is there a probe that has some speed that I can use?
He is still 5 sectors away. I am building a mothership. Maybe I should attack him first.

Of course you can build a deep scan probe. It has speed 10 and radius of 5 sectors. I thought of the vessel scan because it needs only 2h buildingtime and scans 2 sectors around your planet, so you can see the attacker when he flies towards you.

I had fleet 1 in base and a base force. Will the invader had a choice in attacking which fleet? Or the game-routine is to attack the fleet first?

If you fight against several fleets (the base also counts as fleet) then it's completely random which fleet he will fight against.

I had thought of another reason why you need to send 2 fleet to attack. If the mothership of fleet1 is destroyed, you can transfer your fleet one ships to fleet2. So that you are not stranded.

Yes, the only problems is when both motherships get destroyed.
But I never heard that that happened...

In a battle we cannot control which fleet attack first. But if we send fleet 2 five minutes after fleet 1. Then fleet 1 will fight first.
If fleet 3 reach the target 10 h later, do fleet 3 have to wait for the 24 h break? (ie 14 hours waiting?)

No. The 24h break is only for the fleets that already fought (-> fleet 1 would have to wait 14 h till it can fight against the base or what it fought against again).

But what if you trasfer fleet one and two, after they fought, to fleet three, would that work for getting around the 24 hour rule?

No, because it is the ships themselves that cant fight the same enemy ships twice in 24 hours, so if you moved ships that had fought into another fleet, that fleet cannot fight.

But you can use this to advantage as well!!

if the fleets stay in the battle area after the fight, then they just stand there and don't fight against each oher until the next confrontation time is over which is after 24 hours. (the remaining time is shown in the fleet screen)
