from the examples given in the manual, it seems that having less ships that are powerful is a lot better than having a mass of less powerful ships. I would have though that all ships fight, but the example has only 9 out of 15 ships fight because the enemy fleet consists of 9.

So if i were too attack with 10 1 attack / 2 LP ships against 500 1 /1, i would win a convincing victory as every one of my ships would destroy one of his, but lose only 5 in return...seems rather strange.

The more powerfull ships are worth more manpower.

So if an enemie loses 10 ships worth a total of 80 manpower, and you loose 2 ships worth a total of 100 manpower, you will loose 120 points.

my real point is that a mass number of ships does nothing. As most of them will not get to attack. Unless the extra ships do something? I.E yo uattack with 1000 fighters, they have 10 fighters. do the remaining 990 just sit around and watch, or will they attack the enemy base or something?

You are wrong, its not just about standard ship. It all depend about battle situation, you should understand that is 1 turn to each person. 5k fighter vs 80 crusero is one example.

Actually, you are exactly right.

In your scenario, both fleets contain all four classes. Yes, 1000 fighters fight 10 fighters, then just sit around.

Rubens is referring to another possibility, and that is where class one fights against class three.

___________________________________________________________
My fleet:
1000 fighters, 100 destroyers, 10 cruisers, 1 mothership

Enemy fleet:
10 fighters, 10 destroyers, 1 cruiser, 1 mothership

This battle will bring me no score. I will lose 9 or 10 fighters, 9 or 10 destroyers, 0 or 1 cruiser. My win or loss is not significant.

However, now his fleet signature looks like this:
0 0 0 1

An exposed mothership that I can have my way with.
____________________________________________________________
Now, if I have two or three fleets with me, I can customize my setup to clear his weaker classes.

In the above scenario, I would attack it with 11 fighters, destroyers, and cruisers, to get the mothership. Or maybe just three fighter attacks to milk a few more points out of him.

Yes, fewer ships can be better, but a wily enemy will use your low numbered class to his advantage.

I may have misunderstood your question. You would lose all 10 of your ships, and it would only be a victory in the sense that his 500 ships were not allowed to do any more damage. Actually, in this case, 20 of his 1/1 ships would act.

Your fleet will almost always continue to act until:
1. Every ship of yours has acted.
2. There is no more enemy to fight.

Here is another example:
2000 fighters and one cruiser
verses
1 fighter and 20 cyclopses

One fighter acts in the class one battle. Since there is no more enemy class one, that battle ends.

In the class three, you have a different situation. One cruiser will kill one cyclops. Now, every cyclops will act until the cruiser is dead, or there are no more cyclopses. It is impossible for a cyclops to kill a cruiser, so every cyclops will get a turn, wasting his class one.

If you put one single cruiser in with those 20 cyclopses, not every cyclops will get a turn, depending on where your cruiser is in the battle order. If the cruiser goes first, none of your cyclopses will get a turn to act.

These principles work in every class, every situation.

Try looking at different class battles, and what would be possible. What if an enemy has 1 500 1 1, and you have 50 apollo cruisers?

Well, if you fight with this: 0 0 50 1...

All 50 of your apollos just acted against a single fighter. Each one destroying 10 of his class two ships.

in my example, why would i lose all 10 of my ships? mine have 2 LP, he only does 1 damage.

does he not only get to attack with 10 ships? or does he get to keep attacking until my entire class is destroyed or he has no more ships to go?

That is correct , his 500 fighters keep attacking untill there is no ship left in same class , in your example it would mean that 20 ships will attack your 10 untill they are destroyed the other 480 ships won't do anything untill next battle .

so not onli you you account for attack power and LP you have to consider their MP and how each ships attack. This allows for strategy making and makes this game so interesting
