No. I'm sorry but i think this is not a good invention since we already have the dsp. Yeah sure I would love this probe, range 20 = I can scan maybe 10 planets or so at once if I'm lucky but there is a reason why DSP has only range 5 = can scan 1-2 planets at once.

My previous statement applies to thsi one too... Man scannign 20 sectors = like 4+ dsps very strategically placed

yes but i think that it is still more practical then building 4 deep space probes altogether.

When this probe takes 2 probeslots it's a very usefull probe.

A lot of people won't use it, because they prefer more smaller probes, but for some people it's extremely handy.

I dont like it.

Who needs to see that much? The only benefit is that you will catch things normally unseen, especially around the scoreplanets, where people keep their mTWGs, and sleep their fleets. People would have to start keeping their mTWGs at least 11 sectors out, as well as their toolboxes/resting fleets. Wormholes around scoreplanets would also be vulnerable.

Plus, this probe would make the oscillation probe/scrambler combo useless. You can park this thing 19 sectors away and still see all the action! Nobody would ever find it. You would have to come up with a new oscillation probe to counter it.

With an alliance mate, you could park one on the either side of your target. For example, if you put one on the homeworld side of the BH, you would see incomings almost 10 hours out. Then, most alliances park their mTWGs on the "Dark" side of the hole, where no fleets pass. They would be exposed and vulnerable, and through no creative thought or effort on your part.

Last round, me, Shade, and Darmadon were so close together we could almost put all three on one regular DSP. If the three of us would have each built a hawk probe, and placed them properly, we could have built counterfleets before our enemies could reach us!

On a final note, your probedata would be so confusing to look at it wouldnt be worth the bother. You would have to scroll forever in some heavy trafficed areas! Good luck trying to keep an eye on what you want to see! And in the commotion, you would miss a single fleet at warp speeds with hyperdrop on his mind and you in his sights.

Now, if someone were to come up with a one-sector radius dsp with warp 20 (or more!), then we would have something to talk about!

And if the Hawk Probe was put into the game...

HELL YEAH, I would use it, and so would some of the other carnivores out there, and nobody would be able to get any dang sleep!

Ah! One more thing I thought of...

Im sure you all read in the GNN newspaper about NeutralZone's calculator... they will see every move made in the entire galaxy, and you can bet on that.

I would have to agree with Achillies. He has made some very strong counterpoints to not allowing this much scan.
I really like the fast, short range DSP idea though...it could be a very handy piece of gear for quick looks at specific area's.
