We have to move the Spacetrace server, because our partner quit renting the server with us.
the monthly price of 50 € is too high, so we have to move to another server.
right now it is running on a duron 1100.
the options are a Duron 1200 for 35€/Month
or an athlone 3000+ for 55€ (which is too much)
if some of you would add something to the monthly costs, we could take the faster server. otherwise we would stick to the old speed

I think the speed is fine. Just like ST. Just be patient and dont look at your watch every minute. Relax and take your time for this game. |

the price for the new server is 39 €/Month and one time 99 € installation setup
(it has 500MB RAM)
another option would be an
AMD Athlon XP 3000+
with 1 GB RAM
for 49€ plus 149 € installation setup
if you want the faster server we would need someone that sponsors the extra 10€ a month and 50€ extra for the installation |

it is running, and will be available soon
the ip is changing at the moment
you can already access the new server if you add the ip for the spacetrace.com domain in your host file:
213.239.221.119
add this in your file:
127.0.0.1 localhost
# for new spacetrace server:
213.239.221.119 spacetrace.org
213.239.221.119 www.spacetrace.org |

the spacetrace.org domain is set to the new server already, but it takes some time, until the whole internet knows, that spacetrace.org points to a new server with another ip.
so if you can`t wait to access spacetrace, you have to force your own computer to use the new ip.
this is happenning in the hosts file of your computer.
_____________________________________
again for a better understanding:
you find the hosts file here:
Windows XP:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
or Win 98:
C:\WINDOWS
linux:
/etc/hosts
open it with a texteditor ( for example Wordpad.exe)
and add these lines at the end:
Code: | # for new spacetrace server:
213.239.221.119 spacetrace.org
213.239.221.119 www.spacetrace.org |
close the editor and save it in the same directory
look again in the directory where the hosts file is saved and check if it was saved as "hosts".
wordpad automatically saves all files as *.txt file in this case rename the hosts file to "hosts-orig"
and rename the new "hosts.txt" to just "hosts"
take care about the file-ending, cause on some windows mashines a file called "hosts.txt" will be shown as only "hosts"
in this case:
go into the options of the explorer and disable the hook at "hide known file-extensions"
in a few hours/days all this is not needed anymore.
by then the domain
spacetrace.org
will be known as to be on the new server |

seems like the domain points on the new server now, so you don't have to change your hosts file anymore.
anyway: the new server is somewhat faster already, i think
and we added the google-ad at the front page, which really seems to bring some money - just for clicks, so if everyone clicks on the banner once a day, we would get some dollars from it
thanks |
