i think it could be very intersting in establsih a political system to spacetrace . like in real society the political power is the power to change the rules of the game.
so there could be a set of rules that can be changed by the players... by the players that have the political power. the political power can be given by votes (democracy) or by using force (dictatorship, revolutions).
the set of rules which can be changed should be discussed.
but it could be a lot nasty stuff (which makes it attractive to have the force):
*moderator rights in the forum (-> to control the public opinion)
*op status in irc
*the right to ban single ships from the game
*control over several game parameters
*the choice of the political system (democracy, dictatorship...)

hmm... political power... I reckon you mean the leader, or some point-based system (for the force-based approach)?
Yeah, maybe like that: In an alliance of over 6-8 (you decide actual numbers, it's just an example) the leader has one power, and also the highest scorer in the alliance. The democratic-elected leader can loose his place, whereas the other one is held "captive" -> cuz if he decides to do something, they can all just get up and leave the alliance. That way there'll be a stimul for big alliances to appear, thusly a lot of flags out there with a lot of points behind them
Or maybe u mean some sort of system as implemented in the *newbie-helpers*? Only a man of power can give power?

Im like after posting three topics on this! Please put this in!
How about, all the Leaders/MoC of alliances are considered a politician. They go to a parliament and vote on certain things. Bla bla bla
If an alliance gets a majority it has the power to kick other alliances out of the parliament (communism)
But somehow, we need to make it possible for fleets to be able to destroy political power (revolt)
Its all very confusing im just writing the basics. |

Oh yeah,
The only rules that cannot be changed are
ONly use one account
Don't share accounts.
Also players could add new rules. And if the players don't like it, then REBELLION!

i am sure that it would be thrilling of having the force of changing the rules of the game, but only if the rules that can be changed are really changing the game play.
i think it is not easy to find a set of rules and parameters that could be changed by the force-keepers.
i can give you an example; a rules game, you can play it with other people and a sheet of paper:
1. fundamental rule: fundamental rules can only be changed if a 2/3 majority votes for it
2. fundamental rule: normal rules can be changed by a 1/2 majority
3. fundamental rule: a fundamental rule can only be added if 100% votes for it
3. normal rule: a new normal rule can be added if 1/2 majority votes for it
that's all you need . all other rules are made by voting now. you can add rules that define leadership, parties, credits that are distributed... whatever. the goal of the game is to change it (or getting total control ??? ).
i am not sure how a dynamic structure like this can be used for st
