i think it is needed a rating system for all the forum posts, where everybody can klick if the topic is useful/important.
this way it would be easier to find out the most interesting posts in the forum and maybe a field "sort by rating" in each forum view |

So now when you read a topic you should also rate it . I think the number of views is a good rating system already.

that's a point, i will add a sortby "number views"
but i think there are also some very good posts, especially in n00b help, that you never find again, so nobody views it |

Well a solution is if you had phpBB 2 that you could make them Sticky.

the prob with phpBB2 is that we would have to make all the changes again that we did for the ship inventions.
and iu think phpBB2 is even slower than 1, isn't it? |

and i think the top views should be for each forum and not total views, but views per post in that topic |

Well it was your problem and it is your forum, so does it matter if it is ok with me. I only tried to help finding a solution. The only problem you now have is that you must dig the forums searching for important topics or find someone to do that for you.

hehe, i just asked "ok?" because if someone thought different.
i think someone that digs the forum is not needed, the views button will be there for everybody so everyone that sees a post that thinks is important can rate the post up and add a hundred virtual views, if it is not well placed already |

the uprating is possible now for registered users at the top of each topic page.
and the sorting within one forum is possible now |

if you rate a forum up there are added a virtual 100 views, do you think this is enough?
and the calculation for the rating is
views / (replies+5)
i think this is a good approximation of the relevance of the forum. ( forums with 1 to 5 posts have the same relevance if there are 100 users looking at them.) better would be something with logarithms i think but that is quite complicated |
