research invader (class 2 ship)
carries 75 research troopers would act the same manner as the other troopers. for every day they have control of the enemy research center (more than 1000 troopers), they steal the last completed research item from the research center. the enemy no longer has that research and must research that item again to produce it. if you have items that depend on the reseach stolen, you can no longer produce them either until you research the underlying research again.

It could also lesser the difference between races - even research stealing within an alliance...
Also, the best way to steal the last research is to know what that research is...

Here is an idea for modification where it would be less useful to multis.
First maybe require research Science methods in order to use. Thus, you will have to be advanced in research already in order to understand what you have stolen.
The second modification to discourage multis would be to make the chances of you getting back to your research center with the technology based on the number of points the player has relative to the most advanced player in the universe.
For example if the top player in the universe has 10000 points and the player who's research is being stolen has 5000 points then you have a 50% chance of stealing that research. If the player has 100 points then you have 1% chance of stealing the research (negative scores are calculated to zero.
However, the player who researched the item always loses the research (victim).
In addition, the victim also loses 500 of their points per day (not gained by the attacker). Thus, your chances of stealing multiple researches deminishes fast. However, you can still punish your opponent by removing his research progress.
This should significantly reduce any benefits for multis and alliances from using this ship to advance members. |
