thats easy: he had the luck to gain the first shot and killed a troika before you even acted.
than your SECOND troika shot the destroyer.

act 1:
by luck : F gains first shot & kills T
.......TTTTTTTTTT F

act 2: the next living T splits
(no more action of enemy fleet cause all ship acted):

.......TTTTTTTTTMMMT F

act 3: within the next 3 rounds 3 M short F
(no more action of enemy fleet cause all ship acted):

.......TTTTTTTTTMMMT F

epilog: class combat ended: all M die:

.......TTTTTTTTTMMMT F

If a troika splits... isnt it lost?? Are the modules, if unharmed rejoining?
If this is not true, why is in this example only one troika lost? If one is shot and an other one splits... hmm..

nuke?

The troika is only lost if it is shot. The modules dissapear after the battle.

by reading the report, 1 of your Troika split in to its modules to attacking his destoryer and in return one his destoryer attacked and killed one of your Troika and Troika cost more in mp to build then a destoryer.

The analysis of SirTaz is right.
"1 of your Troika split in to its modules to attacking his destoryer and in return one his destoryer attacked and killed one of your Troika and Troika cost more in mp to build then a destoryer."
Maybe the battle report should read like this:

1 troika separates into 3 ships
1 destroyer vs 1 troika
3 troika modules vs 1 destroyer

NO wizzes analysis was right, the destroyer shot first, otherwise the destroyer would have shot a module.

Well, a lot of people think that a troika SPLITS in 3 modules... Actually, it CREATES those modules, and remains in the battle... That's the point of my whining about the troika - you don't get anything by shooting the modules, you have to shoot the troika itself... It's allmost as if the troika modules have nothing to do with the troika itself...

Apart from that, don't ships target each other in a row, I mean, even if the troika splitted, it's still the first target on the list, not a troika module?

So, here are the two cases:

1.) Troika gets turn, it splits
2.) Destroyer fires at troika

--------or-------

2.) Destroyer gets turn, fires at troika

In any case, there would be no way for you without loosing a troika... Ironically, to avoid that, you had to be EXTREMELY lucky, so that, from the whole mass of troikas, your only Destroyer would be first *on the list* and on top of that, you fire first

so the troika will be killed directly even after it splits if it is shot before it can attack?

Well, I have not read the manual on this yet, but if what Metody says is correct, the troikas will still remain after it "creates" 3 modules, so it is a viable target.

@IceZoo - Well, look at the troika as a missile launcher, that fires 3 4/4 missiles into class2, except that the missiles don't self-destruct... The troika still exists, and in fact instead of 1 ship, there are now 4 - and only one of those brings you points... The easiest way to check that is simply to look at any battle report, and divide the number of modules lost/killed to the one of troikas lost/killed... And I doubt that you'll ever get something like a factor of 3

@BladeTech - correct, yet not completely - the troika doesn't attack, if it gets it's turn, it *splits* /e.g. creates 3 modules/ - that is it's attack... That's the only thing that the troika itself does, the modules attack...

Quote:
battle details:
creates 3 troika modules in your own fleet in class 2
battlemessage: "troika separates into ... ships"
(battle engine syntax: create,self,3,2,troika module, troika separates into)

And since in the battle syntax there isn't a *shuffle* command, the battle order isn't changed, and thusly the troika is the first target...

thats not fair. There should be a shuffle command because isn't spacetrace supposed to be in a realistic view of battle? If a troika is to make 3 target to get shot at instead of it getting shot. then the modules should fall first before the troika itself.
