Do you automatically detect incoming fleets?

And if people hyperjump near your base to someplace else, do you detect that?

Does it have to be an active (not destroyed) trace probe, or are the trace probes like investigation probes in that you can self destruct it once it has been set?

Just trying to figure out from what I'm getting my information from. The trace probe gives you info in this form: yes/no?

- hyperjumpgate detected at ***/***/** (Ruler of Planet): fleet 1 from NAme of Person ETA 1 h
- foreign fleet detected at ***/***/** (Person of Place): fleet 1 from Person of Place

No this is from your base sensors, a trace probe sends you a message, that reads fred nerk commenced a jump from XXX to YYY, in otherwords the sensors reveal incomings in your vicinity, the trace records jumps in ints vicinity to anywhere. But, if you put a trace on your neighbour, he will surely get angry with you

Thanks for all your help Captain. A few more points to clarify about the base sensors. 1) When you "the sensors reveal incomings in your vicinity", incoming is just any fleets within a certain radius right? Regardless of whether they are moving.

2) What is the radius?

3) And will there by a different message if the fleet is heading for my planet?

Not sure about the radius ,around 10 sectors I think maybe less, but if they are coming straight at you you get that, you are attacked etc message in your fleet window. If they are coming straight at you, it does not matter how far away they are you will see them, unless they are cloaked of course. In the alliance incomings you only get precise information if you have actually been to the allies planet, or probed it, this is because until you have been there or probed it is an uncomfirmed co ord just like any you manually write into your com, ie it could be incorrect etc.
