Changing some Ship names

was thinking. maybe we should rename some ships. why would a bug race have a ship called eagle? just something i thought about.

maggot. I think it suits well with the design and also the ship itself.

i think it doesent fit, cause maggots, they eat until they are really fat.
eagles have none of this character.

i don't think we have to change the name.
usually you name your ships after some other stuff, for examples humans call their spaceships a lot after animals although they are no animals

if we start changing names, we woulld have to think about a whole theme for each race, but that's low priority.

yes, everyone is used to the names we have now, but right now everyone means 30 players. so that wouldnt be an issue really.
but i see your point, admin also. if we rename some ships then we have to rename more of them to make it consistent.
i just feel its something we should think about. because right now the main goal is getting more players. i dont know if naming convention is even something that matters to players, but maybe its a good idea to create a distinct feel to a certain race. we are doing that right now with the pictures, why not with the names also...

i checked the tech list and eagle is the one that confuses me the most.

i thought about a maggot because maggots have the same size as the adult bugs, but they are weaker. and thats what eagles are about i think.

In wartime every side has names for their own ships-planes-tanks-equipment. Which are usually entirely differant from what the enemy calls them. So really you should not change the existing names.

Think of them as nicknames. Please remember that the ships were named by each designer. Then that name was changed and approved by the admins in charge at that time.

Example: Sherman Tank

formally Medium Tank, M4
the M4 was named after Union General William Tecumseh Sherman,
nicknames like "Tommycooker" and "Firefly"

So the names should not be changed.

my idea for this is:

the names like they are now are the human nicknames (like the nato nicknames for russian aircraft for example: badger, backfire, foxbat etc. )

and in the wiki we post for every alian vessel the original name, for example:

cyclops (human codename)
spychompylotar (mycilloid name)
translation: mighty haploporus of the sky that brings the apocalypse...
