Are you refering to a mentor to help with the game of ST?
A mentor can shave considerable time in the learning curve of the game to SOME people.

Others just want to go on about learning the game on their own and are not really interested in any help.

Ahhhh... I wasn't sure and I replied before his other posts were made in the forum.

It seemed rather vague

However, it is a good question.
How many people here actually learned most of the game on their own and how many had help and advice right from day 1 ?

A little of both, for me.

Most of what I know of the game came from starting fights on day 1, and quickly getting the hang of things.

Learning from mistakes is a valuable skill.

But some things came from talking to other people, so it's an important role to have.

Which brings me to newbie helpers.

There seems to only be 5 in the game, and 2 from the Space Rebels, so as good as they are, it seems they just nominated themselves.

Looks like Connor is one, and Imp Wizz is one.

Shouldn't there be more?

And I've always felt it should be eaiser to find them, or make the instructions for finding them easier.

I don't even think anywhere in the beginner instructions does it say you can find them with player search. Because sometimes, you don't see any on your com-list, when you first start.

Maybe they should automatically be put there?
Or be easier to find.
Or have more of them.

Because it's important. I think a lot of the people who join for a day and disappear do so because they can't find anyone to help them, or nobody offers to.

And they don't come to the forum, because I don't clean the spam out often enough

Life goes on.

Ive helped 2 people who have asked for help over the last era and half. They don't seem to ask. lilly used IRC to welcome new players and ask them for assistance. I don't have time for that but willing to help when i can. Its a cool game and when you understand how the ships work its even funner

When I started, I didn't understand the interaction between ships/fleets.... stuff like that.
I played a whole 2 era's thinking attack damage was ongoing with subsequent attacks with 2nd and 3rd fleet.
Consequently, I contributed to some very good scores to the more experienced.

I really enjoy the complexity the game offers with the combination of ships available.
I do think the ships available should be rotated considering the number of good inventions available if nothing else, to keep the game interesting to the current players.
Some interesting combo's may happen. If a fleet comes along that is undefeatable, it could mazke for some good forum chat.
