Forum Karma

Some forums (including phpbb2, which I believe, is spacetrace forum), hava karma ranking system, where respected users get rewarded with +karma, and spamming users and annoying users get punished with -karma. I think this would encourage more respectable posts, I also think it would be a good way for admin to decide wether someone needs somesort of ban.


You can decide yourself wether a person is 'good' or 'not good'.. I think you click the 'thumbs up' or 'thumbs down' feature just like in Youtube . Then the overal karma score is total 'thumbs up' - 'thumbs down'.


Well, I would think it would be cool anyway. It works on almost all other forums.

do you get punished if you get bad karma, cause in all the games i play im bad and kicka*s in pretty much everything.

Well yes, I presume, if you have REALLY bad karma, you would need to improve your attitude!

i think this is not good for ST, cause it´s a war game with much provocation and propaganda inside the forum. so the fights should not be done with karma-points. better are fights inside the game.

Agree with Zaphod. Like the post just above me, I would smite it with a negative karma, because it's not helpful to the conversation.

Some people might then smite me, for smiting Drizzt.

Some people might just smite Drizzt for being a nerd who likes D&D. (Don't worry, table gamer here, too)

Some people might smite me, because I beat them in the game.

Way too many ways to abuse, eventually, everyone is negative, and nobody can post.

Sorry to say things based on the honor system are a bad idea, but I think we can all agree the chance of abuse is too high.

Just get more moderators, if needed.

Have them remove off topic or flaming posts, and warn the people who post that sort of thing.

lol, i didnt realize forgotten realms was D&D till the other day when i was reading the pirate king and it said D&D on the back, never saw that on the thirty other books of his that ive read.

First off...Welcome to the forum Drizzt. Are you new to ST or an old player revisiting?

A strategical part of the game can be the forum topics through propaganda and other stuff. You may have just witnessed a case of an alliance losing due to the forum highlighting of a case of unfair play.
So...what do you think would happen to every negative post made?

It wouldn't work.
I do agree that more moderation could be implemented by keeping forum topics moved to proper categories etc. Some places on the forum are for "smack talk" some for polite conversation or questions. For the most part, it self regulates fairly well and only post movement into proper topics is really necessary. Blatant swearing should be also deleted but stuff like a$$ and s-cks should be let go. The swear filter has a funny set of parameters in my N.A. way of thinking however... not my business.
Getting back to topic though, the karma would be used as a weapon...plain and simple ! I would use it !
