I think you should scrap those stupid 'default' names. The best sign of a noob is to see wether their name is like that.. for example 'Uubygi of Rewoqt' would without doubt be a noob (unless it was an experienced player undercover)
They just sound stupid, and I think most noobs don't realise they can change thier name and their race anyway, seeing as such a large number of new players have these default names.

there is a mechanism behind the default names, that apply to the selected race: if you select mycilloid, you get a mycilloid-like name etc.
there must be a routine to suggest a name, but maybe we can make it more obvious, that you can choose the name on the register page |

The link to change your name and everything else is fairly big but doesn't stand out of the colour, so maybe give that link a red colour, it should realy stand out then.
