in your research screen, you'll have every possible invention following your last inventions made (according to the tech tree) as option for your further researches.
techs for other species are marked with the species' icon and usually take something about 4d research time instead of 1d |

You can only research stuff for 2 races besides your own - for example, human can research only nanite and e-ray, but not mycelloid or kazuula... In the manual - the races section is described which other race researches a certain race is capable of...
