I'm making a new SpaceTrace tool... If you want to know, it's made in BASIC. Now, before you guys all start shouting, i just wanna say that BASIC is apart from a decent bit of HTML the only coding language i know, and i find it perfect for it.

Now for the concept: The tool should be able, that is, after my calculations are finished, predict with a 5% certainty what ships are in a fleet, with only two sources: a DSP reading, and the race of the fleet owner.
Certainty chances i predicted:

None of the guessed ships are in the fleet: 10%
1-3 of the guessed ships are in the fleet: 25%
4-6 of the guessed ships are in the fleet: 45%
7-10 of the guessed ships are in the fleet: 15%
All of the guessed ships are in the fleet: 5%

If you add these up, you get a 100%

At the moment, the tool has the following features:

-Having you put in the number of ships of each class.
-Calculate if this isn't total nonsense, i.e. 50 C4 ships.
-Calculate the total amount of manpower in basic ships.
-Calculating the total number of ships.
NEW! - A race check, which will advice you about the types of ships it may include.

I know it's not a lot, but I've only been on it for an hour or so, and i'm sure some people can do it better... If you can, just give it a try.

^^ DOWNLOAD ^^

The file is in .BAS, i can't get it in any other format, so please, if you can convert it, I'd be really happy.

great work!
could you explain how to start your basic program?
(does it work with Qbasic?)

you will find this very helpful to interpret the technologies:
for Flash:
http://www.spacetrace.org/tec_data.php?querydata=1

or if you need the data in a text-Format:
http://www.spacetrace.org/tec_data.php?csvdata=1

or maybe human readable like this:

Thanks Admin !

It does indeed work with QBasic, which is what i'm programming it with...
I still find it hard to find out some sort of formula, but i'm all on it

Q-basic or Visual Basic? Latest VB is great actually...uses native C++ code ...along with Java in a new "C#" language...if, q-basic...still np as the code can be ported to higher levels.

Will go over your alogorythym...writing html and calling up the browser if needed is also no problem

Adding in factors such as current evo state (estimated by finding the date of the targets 1st battle) to determine possible ships present... would increase the accuracy of your idea

Just QBasic... I don't look like the kinda guy who can afford Visual Basic do i? Anyway, that evo thing is a good suggestion! This would really accurize (is that a word?) the results! I'm still working on a formula... I once calculated the ships in someones fleet, and came out with 2 of the 3 possibilities! It had something to do with the amount of ships divided over the fleets, and from there and his race i found those ships... Seems like a lot of writing work to me, since i have to copy all sorts of data... :'(
