the point is if something log in and immediatelly log off after like 30 sec, it is almost impossible to catch him
what about some minimal time limit you have to be in a alliance like half a hour  |

Absolutely not.
No matter how much I hate spies in this game, as they are annoying,*cough* lou *cough* they are a very valuable thing in a war.

I guess I got the terms "Spies" and "Moles" confused. I assumed they were the same thing. Obviously not.
To be able to change a password to gain admittance to an alliance would certainly curtail the Spy element but not eliminate it. Some players here change alliances like dirty socks and they have picked up, I'm sure, an impressive list of alliances they could drop in and out of to gather info.
On the other hand, a mole would be someone who belongs to 1 alliance but quits for a specific amount of time to join another alliance and feed back info to thier "real" alliance.
I don't like the inability to change alliance passwords and think that if a former member just drops in to grab info, the alliance should be notified of thier visit.
On the other hand a "mole " is much harder to place but can be much more effective in providing long term info provided they don't get caught.
I agree that covert activity can and is an enjoyable part of this game however being able to change alliance log in passwords gives an alliance ability to protect thier info from such underhanded tactics from former members.
This thread has enlightened me to a whole other way to play the game however, using such tactics would be a bit distasteful for me. I would prefer the "mole" method only.
In the end, I would say, alliances should be alerted to incursions by former members for purpose of easy info gathering.
Still no guarantee's but at least the alliance can be on watch. |

Unless something has changed, the alliance leader can change the password at any time. I havent led an alliance for well over a year, though.
Of course, unless your new alliance mate is a trusted member, the password should be changed EVERY time someone is admitted, to a completely new and random password.
If this is not done, and spies infiltrate, that is your own fault.
What you should do, for security:
-my alliance pass is "goat", and I am the only one who knows this
-accept a new member verbally
-when both are online, give pass to new member "tree"
-then change "goat" to "tree"
-watch for new member to join, and do not go offline while pass is "tree"
-immediately upon joining, change "tree" back to "goat"
This way, you always have positive control over who joins, and each member joined under a different pass. Nobody, NOBODY ever learns about the default pass "goat".
If admin wants to add security, a better idea is to send a message to the alliance leader, instead of the whole alliance, such as:
"Bill of Boston denied entry to alliance, wrong password "tree" attempted"
This would not only show that someone attempted to join unlawfully, but also, which password was used, which could be used to sniff out the rat.
The best thing about this security feature, is that it is not 100% effective, as some leaders would, of course, be sloppy, and clever spies can still infiltrate.

Thanks Teacher...that was very comprehensive and enlightening. It has also been a while since I was leader, however I did try and was unsuccessful in changing alliance passwords. Star Commander, while he was in alliance also assured me it can't be done. I thought it strange at the time but what do I know...I'm still new.
I'll point this thread out to our leader and have him try.

Achilles, that idea is very, very good.
But most leaders, are very active.
And they would still know if a spy eneteres as the message would be sent to them.
IMO, things should remain the way they are, however, I really like Achilles idea of informing the leader if someone has tried to gain entry into the alliance and has used the wrong password.
Very clever, effective, and it also gives you an excuse to slaughter them.  |

i like the idea admin spies are gay and i never use them in alliance warfare i just use a jedi mindtrick on my enemy so they tell me

I think it should not be added. If the team leader cant be bothered to alert his team of a new arrival, then they clearly dont have the time to worry about spies. |

Well, regardless of some loud complains here, 2/3 of us thinks something should be modified
admin told in his first post if they found out the password, it mean some peoples use easy words as a passwords. And looking on the refreshed alliance screen just in a moment the spie is in, is a lot of luck even for very active peoples |

The security of an alliance is one of the leaders FEW responsibilities...
Should we really take away yet another??
good ol' Achillies basically said it all.. though i do things a little differently.
i would never have the TO password as a word.
the TO pass is always a random bash on the keyboard fx : "/#%#IRDFDK"
I change it to something long and connected when i recruit a player fx: "welcomecase" and change it immediatly back to a keyboard bash when i see the player is in..
this eliminates even the slightest chance that someone may guess the pass..
I have sat and guessed passes of many alliances in my time, it's the most effective way of gathering intelligence.
I think this part of the game should be left as it is, let the leaders protect their alliance and the infiltrators infiltrate.. |

Well i voted yes but it was meant to be a no.
It can almost be impossible to get into alliances if the leader rembers to change the password everyday but if they start forgetting i thought of a new posotion?
The Allliance Password Holder:
The leader can give this person the right to change the alliance password. It would sort the problem out of the leader forgetting and not having time wouldent it. Or maybe give the password change box aswell to the CoW. _________________ APEmpire |
