we chose to move to the new server, cause that server is much faster and we have a new java applet there: http://irc.spacetrace.org
so maybe the old server can stay under the control of kamikaze for a while, so he can keep the community running.
2 servers are better than one |

NO THEY ARE NOT!!!!
It's like u have two same squers in city (with the same name) so you come to 1st and other one come to 2nd, and you two had a greate time
MAKE ONE!!!! pls
no really, there are not to much users in one, and n00bs will only get confused!!!!!!!!
pls repair links, so we have only one official server.

Why do I get an ugly number suffix in my nickname if I use the Java Applet. Can't you have a name without the suffix as first nickname, and the name with the suffix as alternative nickname.

Or maybe this is an idea:

How to ask user to enter a nickname before connection?
Just add some kind of PHP or ASP connected to an HTML form.
For instance :
Code: | <FORM ACTION="chat.php" METHOD="POST">
<p>Your nick: <INPUT TYPE="TEXT" NAME="chatnick" value="Guest??"><br>
<INPUT TYPE="SUBMIT" VALUE="Chat!"></p></FORM>
|
And in chat.php :
Code: | <param name="nick" value="<?php echo $chatnick; ?>"> |
You might also check out http://pjirc.com/downloads.php as there are some nice front-ends pre-written to do this for you. Or even search the forums for "JavaScript Login" where you will find at least three.

i think an extra field for nickname is not needed, cause it is already there at the right-bottom corner of the applet.
right now we are fixing the irc-stats-page, it should work today.
are there any more broken links somewhere? i think there is only the link to the new applet on the new server now, isn`t it? |

It seems that PJIRC is somehow buggy and not heavy. This one is light, small and free, perhaps an alternative.
