Say your enemy has 2 fleets. One is his base fleet the other fleet 1 etc.
If you attack him with one fleet. Which enemy fleet will counter my fleet first. His base fleet or his 1st fleet?

It is random, so there is no rule you will first atatck base and than fleet 1, or fleet 1 and than base.
But the base is always on defense, if you only want to attack fleet 1, you can put your mode on defense. Than you will not attack the base. But there is a risk, if the enemy has his fleet on defense too, than there will be not an attack. Than you must wait 24 h for you can attack again with the same fleet.

Wise words DB, very true.
But you can get the luck a bit at your own hand by using multiple fleets yourself so you can send them in in a order you think is best, but mostly fleets at base are not on defense because most people use battlecodes and forget (or are just to lazy) to put them at defense while at base, but when you fly into coords the other can see your attack attitude and change his into defense if he wishes not to fight you.
But then there are a lot of different tactics on how to approach a base best...

Hey thanks both of you for the information. But it raises another question. What exactly are those battles codes and how are they used?

In your fleet window there are some symbols, you can set them to red (attack) or blue (defense), or u can use a code(just a word in the box and hit modify.
Your fleets will then fight any fleet NOT
set to the same code as u.
With the simple red and blue options, it is possible to avoid a fight, by simply changing to the same color as the incoming fleets.(Except of course for your base fleet which is set on blue always) But with a code you cannot do that, so most experience players use code as a matter of course.
When you are in an alliance, the leader can set a code for the alliance members to all use, the alliance ships will then not attack other allies using the code, or blue defense. |

@karade69:
if the fleets of your enemy are on defense mode and your fleets too,you will not fight!
that means that if your fleet and the enemy fleet have the same attitude you will not fight!
you have to change your attitude in your fleet screen!
next to the defense mode (blue shield)
is another field where you write in something
like jasfh! it doesn't metter what you write in but after that drop the modify button ! after that you'll see in the bottom of the fleet screen is a sentence like this "your fleet fights against all fleets that don't have the attack code: jasfh"
if you do it like i told you it have to work !
if not say it in forum we will try something else!
i hope you understand everything i told you because my english isn't very good!
