I think that any ship that does not have a mothership (Timeslipper, Lowrider, Ect.) or warp drive should be able to move around the galaxy at a warp .5. This way your fleets are not stranded if you lose your mothership.

NO, I don't like it. If you don't need a mothership you can easily avoid class 3 battles.

I agree. I think It is stupid that ships, that don't have a warp drive, can't move anywhere.

What do you mean "I think it is stupid"? Have you thought it through?

Every ship can certainly move. However, a fighter (or most other ships) probably doesn't have the fuel to even travel through one sector, from end to end. A sector is large enough to hold a solar system.

Now you can say that the larger ships perhaps could hold enough fuel. However, they are loaded with weaponry and other specialized technology, and it simply is not efficient to add warp drives to them.

A mothership's only function is to create a warp field, and that is what it does.

And, if all ships has warp-drives, then you wouldn't need motherships, you could just send fleets out without them

I am not saying that all ships have warpdrives, what I am saying is that they are using sub-warp power to maneuver. If they had warp drives then you would not need a mothership this way, yes, it does take forever to get somewere, but it does not leave an entire fleet somewere if you lose a warp drive carrying ship. It would not be intended to avoid a fight. I would take fight that I knew I would lose than act like a coward and run. This way if your fleet is in bad shape and you do not have a mothership and you are at the black hole, if it is being held by your allies then you can send your fleet home to meet with a mothership so that you can return or send your fleet somewere else to help out an ally if you need to.

maybe warp 1 is a good compromise
you would be slower but at least you could move and you would still need a mothership
to move your fleet efficiently

If all ships can move with out a mothership then what fun is the mantis?Might as well get rid of the mantis....I think it is awesome that you can leave someone stranded thats what the game is about. Thinking about the what ifs.
