Can you destroy this probe so that you can build others to send out? If you destroy it, what do you lose?

yes, if you look at the scan data all the data are transferred to your comscreen (like the investigationprobe), so you can destroy it to get more space for other probes  |

You don't
But you can send a investigation probe one coord next to you, it will have the same effect.
