Well, SQL is basically used for sorting databases, and getting needed info from them... The PHP /the way I thik it is/ is for,well... making a software-web data transferr...
The way I think it is done is basically this:
So, you have a database with everything in it - players names, battlereports, messages, everything basically... Fleet movements, probe movements, building times,researches, etc..... You use the PHP to send requests /Queries/ to the database through SQL, and you get replies which through PHP appear on your browser... So, you click on *research* for example, the PHP sends a query through the SQL to the database, and it returns what researches have you done, what's currently researching, what time is left, inventions made, etc...
The PHP handles the calculations from the type "What researches can be done since the user made A, B, but not C and since his race is human, can do those and those researches with longer time, etc. etc."
Then the PHP *synthesizes* that reply to a visible page...
Of course, that's how I think it can be done... I could be wrong...
Delphi4 & SQL... Oh I hate that combination... Yet I'm stuck with it

Hey, that's what I do /the SQL part that is, but I use it in software/ when I want to decrease my working time from 3 hours to 30 minutes... Yup... being an accountant sure leaves room for improvements
