the cyclops(es?) they deal 1 damage too 1000 class 1 ships, he has 5, ergo, 5 damage to every class 1 in your fleet.

I like style 2 because it allows for less conflict. I also don't like too have a dedicated fleet slot too protect a colony that I just have for crono pods.

nah, wouldnt work as intended. This has a very narrow use. You dont want the opponenthave more class 1 if its a penguin fleet.
