In the class 2 battle, your opponents destroyer shot first and destroyed your spectre before it got a turn. That's why your spectre didn't do anything.

I think the mothership should have that as an automatic feature. Why should it be blind to everything in the sector it is in?

This is similar to DTOR, but DTOR reroutes all fleets to the Black Hole.
