I don't see anything wrong with the description, it just says "after battle, all reconstructing cruisers with lp = 0 repair themselfs"
To my limited knowledge, not all ships do that.. :wink ... |

Yes, you lose score (amount of mp of the ship),
when it selfdestructs (caution! self destruction!).
You do not lose score when it recycles (caution! recycle!).
